How to Compose an Email on a Mobile Device

The first step is to analyze.

  • What is the main purpose of your email? You should stress this in the subject line and in the first paragraph of your email.
  • Now ask your self and identify what you need the audience to do. Make sure your audience can see your purpose when they first open the email.

The second step is composing

  • You need to use short and meaningful subject lines. Use a subject line that will get the user’s attention. This will prevent the user from just scrolling by while he or she is checking their email.
  • Organize your content accordingly. Place your most important and meaningful content first. Doing this will ensure a better chance of the user holding the most important information.
  • Keep your paragraphs short and simple. You don’t want to bore the user with long words in long sentences. On mobile, shorter paragraphs will appear better and more appealing to the eyes. And if you have any attachments, use a short brief explanation of it.

The last step is evaluating

  • A good practice in evaluation is to send yourself the email before sending it to your audience. This can allow you to catch any mistakes you made while composing.
  • Ask yourself these questions: Does the subject line relate to the message? Will the first few sentences be effective as preview text? Does the first paragraph include the main point?
